Each month of the school year is filled with various activities and responsibilities, but October always feels especially busy—and it will be over before we know it.
This October marks our Homecoming month, and it has certainly been a journey trying to organize our traditional football game and festivities. Our original homecoming opponent, Springfield Central, canceled their entire football season. Finding a replacement mid-season is extremely difficult, but our activities director, Mr. Caballero, did an outstanding job securing a rare opportunity with Christian Lighthouse Academy. Unfortunately, they too had to cancel due to numerous injuries among their varsity players. The timing of this cancellation created an almost impossible challenge for hosting a viable Homecoming event.
Thanks to the leadership of our senior varsity football players, Student Council, and homecoming queen candidates, we have developed an alternative plan to ensure this year’s Homecoming celebration remains meaningful for our students. Your support in making this celebration successful will be invaluable.
Our annual Homecoming parade will take place on Thursday, October 16th, starting at 6 p.m. With 41 entries registered so far, we look forward to a fantastic event.
The Homecoming celebration will follow on Friday, October 17th, beginning at 7 p.m. We will recognize our fall sports teams, honor returning alumni, and enjoy performances by our band and cheerleaders. In place of the varsity football game, we will host the annual Powder Puff Football game, where senior varsity players will coach senior girls as they compete against junior girls for Powder Puff bragging rights.
The Homecoming dance will be held as scheduled on Saturday, October 18th, at 8 p.m. in the RHS Fieldhouse. It’s always a joy to see our students dressed up and enjoying this special evening.
Finally, parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd, in the RHS cafeteria, starting at 4 p.m. We hope you can attend, as your involvement is a vital part of your student’s success at RHS.
Wishing you a wonderful October,
Corey Ray, Ed.D.

Each month, the Counseling Center hosts a different topic for our Family Info Series. October has a lot to offer! If you are a Senior or a parent/guardian of a Senior, make plans to join us either in person, on October 7, or virtually, on October 8, to make sure you have the information you need to help connect to federal financial aid a little more easily.
On October 14, we invite families of students in grades 9-12 to join us as we explore what SchooLinks is and how it can be helpful to your student as they plan for their future here at RHS and beyond.
Other upcoming topics include:
December - Summer Opportunities
January - Scheduling Advice: A Path to Graduation
February - Making the Most of Dual Credit
March - College Planning: Where to Start

Seniors and Senior Parents - Make plans to join us for the Financial Aid Workshop on October 7 in the Performing Arts Center. Bridgette Betz, financial aid specialist from Missouri S&T, will be joining us to explain all the ins and outs of federal financial aid, including the FAFSA, and will also be answering any other questions you may have. She will be sharing her information from 6-6:30, and from 6:30 until 7, Ms. Betz, along with our RHS counselors, will be available to help you begin the process of completing your FAFSA documents, so bringing your school Chromebook will be helpful.
If you cannot make the in-person event, a virtual option of the information portion of the workshop will be available on Wednesday, October 8.
