November Promises to Be Busy

October came and went in the blink of an eye, and it’s hard to believe we have just over six weeks remaining in the semester. It was a busy, yet productive month, and we are proud of our students who have excelled in various fall activities as their seasons conclude and they prepare for winter sports. Best of luck to our football team and Cameron Martensen, state cross-country runner, as they continue their post-season competitions.

Congratulations to the RHS Debate Team for taking first place at the Deana Butcher Classic debate tournament held at Willard High School, competing against 34 other schools.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the parents and guardians who attended our recent parent-teacher conferences. For those unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns about their progress. Our teachers are always happy to connect with you.

November promises to be a busy month at RHS, highlighted by our annual Veterans’ Day Assembly on November 11th at 12 p.m. in the RHS Fieldhouse, where we honor those who have served our country and protected our freedoms.

On November 12th, we will host the CORE Rewards Luncheon honoring 665 students with a GPA of 3.5 or above. We are fortunate to partner with the Rolla Lions Club, whose generous sponsorship helps celebrate our students’ hard work and achievements.

Additionally, on November 18th, we will celebrate academic excellence at the CORE Honors Banquet, recognizing students who began the 2025-2026 school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher. We are grateful to CORE (Champions of Rolla Education) for sponsoring this annual event.

On behalf of the entire Rolla High School faculty and staff, we wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Corey Ray, Ed.D.

RHS Drama Presents Wizard of Oz

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (sophomore Kayleigh Wiggins) and her dog, Toto, are whisked away to the magical land of Oz. In hopes of returning home, they take the advice of Glinda the Good (senior Zelda Whitehead) and follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard (senior Ben Duckett). Along the way they encounter a Scarecrow (junior Atticus Gibbs) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (senior Louie Ahl) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (junior Jesse James) who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (senior Monay Lefatshe) in exchange for his help.
Join the Rolla High School Theatre Department, along with students from Rolla Middle and Junior High Schools, as we proudly present the classic tale of The Wizard of Oz.
Performances will be held in the Rolla High School Performing Arts Center on November 14th at 7:00 p.m., November 15th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.. and November 16th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at rollahstheatre.ludus.com or at the door one hour before showtimes.

Leadership Opportunities Available

It is that time of year again.  Any sophomore or junior students interested in leadership opportunities this summer should start watching for more information and the application processes to start.  The RHS Counseling Center will be posting more information about each leadership opportunity in Google Classroom and on our FaceBook page.  Here are a few of the opportunities available.

SOPHOMORE OPPORTUNITIES:

The HOBY Missouri Leadership Seminar is designed to help high school students recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.  We accomplish our mission primarily through a three day seminar, where rising juniors participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills – all while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.

Missouri Leadership Seminar  is hosted on the UCM Campus in Warrensburg, MO. Our program brings exciting panels, opportunities to meet other leaders throughout the state, and moments to think about leadership within your state and community.

The Missouri RYLA Academy is a 4-day, 3-night leadership academy for students who exhibit a heart for community service.  Developed by some of Missouri's top professional educators and Rotarians from Districts 6040, 6060, and 6080, the curriculum is designed to identify and enhance the qualities of servant leadership for each participant, educate them on how to successfully implement a service project, and inspire them to live a lifetime of "Service Above Self."

JUNIOR OPPORTUNITIES:

The American Legion Boys State and Girls State Of Missouri is an eight-day hands on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government. It will be happening during the summer, in the month of June. They both draw together the best and brightest high school juniors to help lead them down the path of individual success and leadership through "doing," not just learning.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring a student please contact Kristi Steelman, HS Counselor at ksteelman@rolla31.org or 573-458-0141 for more information.
