Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your family enjoyed a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. November was a wonderful month for us, beginning with our annual Veterans Day assembly. I would like to extend my gratitude to the RHS Leadership classes, band, and choir for their hard work in making the day truly special for our veterans. The student body demonstrated outstanding respect and appreciation, which was commendable.
Additionally, we hosted the annual Champions of Rolla Education (CORE) banquet, honoring students who achieved a grade point average of 3.8 or higher during the previous school year. We were thrilled to recognize 222 students at the banquet, with over 400 parents and students in attendance. This was our largest gathering for the CORE banquet in recent years. The event was made possible through the support of the CORE group, the Chamber of Commerce, and various local businesses. The strong turnout of students and parents, along with the backing of our local businesses, serves as a wonderful testament to the community in which we live. Thank you for your unwavering support.
As we move into December, our primary focus at RHS will be preparing for final exams. You will find the final exam schedule included in this newsletter. This can be a stressful period for students if proactive measures are not taken. Here are some tips to support your student(s) during finals:
- Set aside electronics approximately an hour before bedtime.
- Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
- Establish a study schedule and study a little bit each night rather than cramming.
- Encourage a healthy breakfast and nutritious eating throughout the day.
- Provide consistent positive reinforcement and encouragement, and maintain open communication about how they are managing.
It is beneficial to start building these habits early in December if they are not already established. To assist our freshman students in preparing for finals, RHS will host “Cocoa and Cram” on December 15th. Please look for further details in this newsletter and the upcoming daily announcements.
On behalf of the Rolla High School faculty and staff, I wish you a very Merry Christmas.
Sincerely,
Corey Ray, Ed.D.

It is that time of year again. Any sophomore or junior students interested in leadership opportunities this summer should start watching for more information and the application processes to start. The RHS Counseling Center will be posting more information about each leadership opportunity in Google Classroom and on our FaceBook page. Here are a few of the opportunities available.
SOPHOMORE OPPORTUNITIES:
Missouri Scholars Academy: RHS would like to nominate three sophomores for the Missouri Scholars Academy, which is a 3-week summer program for 330 of Missouri’s gifted students. The academy takes place from Sunday, June 7 to Saturday, June 27, 2026, on the campus of the University of Missouri- Columbia. Only current sophomores can be considered for nomination. More information is available on their webpage: www.moscholars.missouri.edu.
If you are interested in being nominated, please complete this form bit.ly/msa_info_meeting to be able to attend an informational meeting on December 11 in the Lecture Hall during Pride.
The HOBY Missouri Leadership Seminar is designed to help high school students recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. We accomplish our mission primarily through a three day seminar, where rising juniors participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills – all while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.
Missouri Leadership Seminar is hosted on the UCM Campus in Warrensburg, MO. Our program brings exciting panels, opportunities to meet other leaders throughout the state, and moments to think about leadership within your state and community.
The Missouri RYLA Academy is a 4-day, 3-night leadership academy for students who exhibit a heart for community service. Developed by some of Missouri's top professional educators and Rotarians from Districts 6040, 6060, and 6080, the curriculum is designed to identify and enhance the qualities of servant leadership for each participant, educate them on how to successfully implement a service project, and inspire them to live a lifetime of "Service Above Self."
JUNIOR OPPORTUNITIES:
The American Legion Boys State and Girls State Of Missouri is an eight-day hands on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government. It will be happening during the summer, in the month of June. They both draw together the best and brightest high school juniors to help lead them down the path of individual success and leadership through "doing," not just learning.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring a student please contact Kristi Steelman, HS Counselor at ksteelman@rolla31.org or 573-458-0141 for more information.
