Recent Phishing Attempts
Along with many other school districts across the country, the Rolla School District has been subject to recent phishing attacks through our internal email system. While we have a robust content filter in place, the hackers behind these cyber attacks are constantly formulating ways to circumvent our layers of protection. Please speak with your children about the importance of being vigilant when opening suspicious emails or clicking on links. All of the emails that have been delivered to students’ inboxes have appeared to come from other student accounts. Here are a few key details to help keep your child and their information secure from phishing emails:
Your child should never receive an email from an external source. Carefully inspect the sender’s name and domain information. If the email does not end in “@rolla31.org,” it did not originate from our system.
We will never send you job postings or request personal or identifying information via email.
It’s better to be safe than sorry! If an email looks suspicious, please refrain from clicking any links in the body of the message and forward the email to an administrator or the communications department at communications@rolla31.org immediately.
Students in grades 7-12 will also receive this information, but we kindly request your help in conveying the importance of this message. Thank you for your assistance in keeping students safe on our network and beyond.
(Edited to add that all attempts to date have been addressed and resolved. Thank you!)
